How do you know if you are a hypochondriac?
If you feel like you have a fever or the flu coming on, and you pre-empt it by taking medicine, then you are a likely candidate of being a hypochondriac. English dictionaries define the word hypochondriac as a person that is often or always worried about getting sick or ill. That means medicating yourself when there is in fact no illness to speak of. Just so you know, having this type of behavior isn’t good. For starters, you do not want your body to develop a tolerance to a regular dosage of medicine. When you actually do get sick, instead of taking just one pill to feel better, you might just end up taking two or three pills instead. What this does is that all those extra pills you are taking care of the increased dosage will give your kidneys and liver more work to do. And that’s not good. Second, your body does not need medicine when you are not sick. Moreover, self-medication is also a very bad idea since you don’t really know what is causing your sickness. If you do get sick, go visit a doctor. They have studied and trained for years to be able to practice medicine. Leave that job up to them. Your job, instead of medicating yourself, is to be able to properly communicate to your doctor how you feel and what symptoms you are experiencing. This way, you will be able to feel better and get well as soon as possible.
